Rose Stephenson is the Director of Policy and Advocacy at the Higher Education Policy Institute. Rose directs HEPI’s work on policy, including research, policy analysis and the development of policy recommendations.
Kike Oniwinde Agoro, is the Founder and CEO of BYP Network, a platform that connects black professionals to each other and corporations. She is a BSc Economics graduate of The University of Nottingham, University of Florida MSc scholar, and an ex-Great Britain javelin thrower.
With a career spanning an impressive range of industries including entertainment, consulting, and education, Adam Kingl has spent decades working in innovation, strategy, culture and leadership. Adam is the author of Next Generation Leadership (HarperCollins, 2020) and Sparking Success (Kogan Page, 2023).
Rose is an experienced educator, having worked in outdoor education and as a teacher and Head of Science in secondary education before moving to the higher education sector. Rose worked at the University of Bath, overseeing policies and projects to improve the student experience. She is driven to support the development of considered, evidence-based policy and has an interest in social mobility and equity. Rose is a Governor of Hartpury University.
After gaining work experience in investment banking, Kike then worked in Business Development at a fast-growing financial technology for two years because she realised ‘tech is the future’.
Her motivation for starting BYP Network was to “change the Black narrative” and the platform has since grown to over 150,000 members and over 1000 corporate clients including Facebook, Burberry and Goldman Sachs. BYP members have been upskilled through mentorship, thought-leadership events and industry specific insight along with an enhanced network.
Kike’s proudest moments include the annual BYP Network Leadership Conference attended by thousands of Black professionals as well as the BYP $1m crowdfund that saw 1200 community investors.
Kike is a Forbes 30 under 30, Maserati Top 100 Most Innovative Founders and a Computer Weekly UK Top 50 woman in Technology. She is on the board of the London Chambers of Commerce Black Business Association, Getting on Boards and is a London Tech Ambassador.
Kike is a proud wife and mother to her daughter, Yetunde, who was named after her mum that passed away 7 months before her birth.
Adam is an adjunct faculty member at the UCL School of Management, London Business School and Ashridge-Hult International Business School, and is an instructor and programme director at Imperial College, Moller Institute – Churchill College – University of Cambridge, Hanken-Stockholm School of Economics, Headspring (FT and IE Business School joint venture) and Sauder Business School – the University of British Columbia. Previously, Adam was the Regional Managing Director for Duke Corporate Education, leading the organisation’s business in Europe, and advising clients on issues of adaptability, performance, creativity, and purpose. Adam was also the Executive Director of Thought Leadership and Learning Solutions at London Business School for a decade. He has been an associate of Saatchi & Saatchi and the Management Lab.
Adam is passionate about the future of work and the multi-generational workforce, and has authored a book on this topic, Next Generation Leadership. His second book, Sparking Success explores how companies in any industry can enhance their innovative, adaptable and inspirational capacity with lessons from prominent leaders in the creative arts.

Sandra is Director of Business Development for the mia, With a venue and destination sales background, Sandra’s career spans nearly 3 decades, starting her career within a Convention Bureau.
With 30 years’ experience in commercial marketing, strategic consulting, and customer insight, Mike joined UCAS in 2018 as Principal Insight Consultant, responsible for helping Universities develop their strategic planning through data driven decision making.
Kirsty joined the University of Leicester in 2010 and has been Director of Campus Services since September 2016. She was previously Deputy Director of Residential and Commercial Services.
Sandra steadily built her knowledge of different venues and tailoring representation to their individual needs and understanding what a difference her contribution made to the wider economic impact of the destination.
Having recently joined the mia in late 2022, Sandra is using her extensive knowledge for the business and events industry, supporting members whilst still in the post pandemic recovery mode, growing member engagement and increasing profile and recognition for mia members.
Along with a busy family life, at the weekends, Sandra is usually seen cold water swimming on the shores of Southport beach and cycling around the local lanes, before relaxing with a cold G&T.
Building relationships between Universities and the UCAS Insight team, and working alongside the Client Success Directors, he is helping universities understand how to use insight to improve their service and provide a better experience for their students.
At the University of Leicester, Kirsty is the strategic lead for Accommodation; Print Services; Leicester Conferences; Campus Operations, including Portering and Cleaning, Grounds and Gardens, Post, Fleet; and Security. Kirsty is also a Board Director of College Court Conference Centre and Leicester Services Partnership, (the Student Union and University catering partnership) and the University lead on Prevent.
Kirsty joined CUBO Executive Board in March 2019, initially picking up the conference portfolio. Kirsty is now Chair and has represented CUBO on the Board of the Universities UK Accommodation Code of Practice since October 2018. Prior to joining Leicester, Kirsty was a Senior Project Manager at the Russell Partnership. In this role, Kirsty worked with well-known organisations such as the BBC and Goldman Sachs to improve their catering offer. She also worked with a number of universities, including Leicester. It was while working for Leicester as a consultant that Kirsty began the journey of transforming the University’s catering service, which led to her being offered a permanent role at the institution.
Her early career was spent in hotels including a spell as a Hotel Manager working for Wolverhampton and Dudley Breweries. She also spent ten years at the University of Warwick, firstly as Catering Manager and then as Head of Catering Services. Kirsty is a former winner of a Caterer and Hotelkeeper Acorn Award and was named Cost Sector Caterer of the Year in 2001. She received her MBA from the University of Leicester in January 2017, having combined her studies with a very busy job.
At the University of Sheffield, Caryn is the strategic lead for Accommodation, Commercial Services and Residence Life.
As Director of Commercial Operations (Residential, Catering, and Domestic Services) at Loughborough University, Gagan Kapoor is instrumental in delivering the university’s award-winning student experience.
I am a woman of colour with lived experiences and more than 20 years' experience as a senior manager within Students Services, Accommodation Services, and the voluntary sector.
Caryn is also a Board Director of Unicus Sheffield Ltd which is the subsidiary company that the commercial services are operated within, and covers retail, hotels, delivered hospitality, and conferencing.
Prior to 2012, Caryn was the General Manager of Catering for the LG Arena and National Indoor Areas in Birmingham, managing the catering delivery across retail and hospitality along with the transformational reimagining of the catering offer of the LG Arena in 2011. This role also included External Events as part of Amadeus Catering, where she was the Account Director for the RHS Hampton Court Flower show, along with working as part of the delivery team for the London 2012 Olympics.
Her early career was spent in South Africa working for Southern Sun and Karos Hotels, relocating to the UK in 1995.
He holds a Master’s in Business Administration from Sheffield Business School, a hotel management qualification from the Institute of Hotel Management in India, and a degree in mathematics—bringing a rich blend of knowledge and expertise to his role. With 26 years of experience across higher education, hotels, restaurants, and contract catering in both the UK and India, Gagan is deeply committed to enhancing the customer journey, focusing on efficiency, and simplifying business complexity. For Gagan, serving the higher education sector is both a privilege and a valuable opportunity for sector-wide collaboration, allowing to contribute meaningfully to this remarkable community
Throughout this period I have continually acquired and refined skills which I have applied in my personal and professional life.
I am currently a member of UAL Accommodation Services Senior Management Team, where I contribute to and lead on strategy to enhance the student's experience.
Most recently I have been working with my team and key stakeholders to encourage students with disabilities and health conditions to disclose at the point of application so that we can engage, provide support and enhance the student’s experience. As a result we have received an increase in disclosures and engagement.
I have had the privilege of being the ASRA South East representative which enabled me to work with so many wonderful colleagues across the HE and PBSA sector.
During my 4 year tenure the regional meetings covered a range of topics that were relevant to the sector such as the impact of student fees, student disciplinary issues, applications, housing management, youth breast cancer, students with disabilities, mental health, resident life, policing campus through to offering campus study tours.
I have managed several projects whilst working with homeless and vulnerable people such as implementing and facilitating various groups that offered a safe space, through to mobilising women only hostel and introducing a student Head Leasing Scheme.
I have served as Chair for UAL Black workers group which has grown and evolved to Equality of Minority Staff (GEMS) of which I am still a member.
I am a mentor and a member of the B-Mentor network facilitated by UCL and a member of Black Equity Organisation (BEO).
I have been described as having many superpowers which include personable, friendly, compassionate, trustworthy, reliable, effective listener, effective communicator and collaborative leader.
Melissa has worked within the student accommodation sector since 2009 and has gained invaluable experience within the Private and HEI sector. Melissa is the Deputy Director of Commercial Services and Estates at the University of Kent, she has been in post since 2022.
Richard Metcalfe is an entrepreneurial leader in the hospitality industry with over two decades of experience across international companies and multi-site hotel businesses. Currently, he serves as the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Edgbaston Park Hotel and Conference Centre, where he successfully spearheaded the preopening of a £35 million, 4-star multi-site hotel and conference center, delivering it on time and on budget.
Dan has over 25 years of experience in Higher Education Sport and has been Director of Sport at the University of Nottingham since 2010.
She has extensive experience gained in managing both in-house and 3rd party contract staff, with direct strategic and operational management responsibilities, including managing Soft Services Contracts, New Builds, Mobilisation and Refurbishment Projects, Capital Investment works, Third Party Lettings/Commercial Summer Lettings and Outsourced and Inhouse Catering.
Melissa has been a member of various Senior Leadership Teams throughout her career. As a trained life coach Melissa has focused her career on the importance of investing and developing people to create effective, diverse and happy working environments which will allow teams to ‘thrive’ and achieve organisation goals and objectives. She specialises in Leadership development, building training programmes, managing teams through organisational change, promoting Culture and EDI initiatives within organisations whilst meeting commercial objective and targets.
Melissa's vision for her role at CUBO is to create a CUBO L&D framework that supports the goals and ambitions of the CUBO members. Working actively with current and new members to create impactful training and mentoring opportunities for leaders and their teams which will add value to organisations and the people within them.
Richard is recognised for his innovative collaboration with both academic and local communities, making significant contributions to the hospitality sector through his leadership during complex events like the Commonwealth Games.
Throughout his career, Richard has been deeply involved in strategic planning, business design, and operational excellence. He has a proven track record in managing significant capital projects, having worked on ventures such as the Marco Pierre White Steakhouse and a hotel extension project in his previous role as General Manager at DoubleTree by Hilton Lincoln.
Richard is also a Non-Executive Director at Weetwood Hall Hotel and Conference Centre, where he contributes his expertise in independent hotel company operations, focusing on strategic growth and financial performance improvement. A passionate advocate for accountability and change, Richard continues to shape the future of hospitality through his leadership and dedication.
Prior to that Dan held roles at the Universities of Portsmouth, Essex and Royal Holloway, as well as being Sports Sabbatical Officer at the University of York.
Dan is heavily involved in BUCS and sits on their Advisory Group, Senior Managers Executive, Sports Review Implementation Group and Chairs the BUCS Hockey Advisory Group. Dan also sits on the TASS Management Group.
Dan’s sporting interest is hockey and he is a Level 3 coach and has coached National League and English University representative teams, as well
James is an experienced hospitality practitioner and consultant, with over 20 years’ experience in the industry. After graduating with a degree in Hospitality Business Management, James developed a management career within food and beverage and has worked for, and with, a variety of hotels, restaurants, and bars.
Helen works as Head of Campus Facilities Management at Staffordshire University, having responsibility for a wide range of staff and student facing services, including; sustainability, waste, water, cleaning provision, porting, travel, transport and post services.
Elliott works as the Sustainability Manager at Loughborough University, recently completing his Masters in Climate Change Policy and Politics.
Prior to joining Russell Partnership Collection, James established his own consultancy business, working with a variety of independent and national hospitality, education, and care organisations to review their operations and processes and successfully supporting business improvements across a range of functions.
Since joining the Partnership, James has worked closely with leading universities, the NHS, local government, hotels, and independent food businesses, to review and develop catering strategies, develop new food concepts, and manage new outlet design projects. James has also written, developed, and delivered training programmes for leading international hotel, travel, and leisure operators.
Qualified to master’s level in Organisation Development and Consultancy, James is currently furthering his education through studying a part-time PhD exploring success and failure in new restaurants. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Hospitality, Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and is an experienced university lecturer in hospitality management.
She also lead the Estates and Commercial Services aspects of our onsite Graduation Awards seasons. She am a member of IEMA, working towards chartership in the near future and also trying broaden her facilities management knowledge.
Helen graduated from Newcastle University in 2008 with BSc Hons. in Environmental Biology and gained my MSc in Environmental Sustainability and Green Technologies from Keele University in 2013. She is originally from the Midlands area, but has moved around the country and the world and has now settled just outside Burton on Trent. A keen netballer, returning to the sport after over 10 years not playing.
She has worked in a number of government bodies and HE institutions in environmental and sustainability roles and has first hand experience of the changes in the sector in relation to our environment and our impact on both the local environment, but how this also impacts global aspects.
He has over 15 years experience in the sustainability field and is responsible for bringing the universities sustainability strategy to life. His work supports all areas from Staff and student engagement, campus operations and decarbonisation, development of policies and sustainability in the curriculum.
Nysa joined CUBO in October 2024 as the incoming Executive Director. Nysa brings extensive experience in leadership, innovation, strategic, financial and operational management and a passion for making a difference in the non-profit sector, evidenced by her experiences at Gem-A, BCI, IIS and her own volunteering with the Aga Khan Council as well as her recent roles.
Gillian is the Director of Commercial Services, at Royal Holloway, University of London. Gillian took up this post in December 2016 and is responsible for Catering, Residences and Conferencing.
Harriet Noy founded Hazaar during her second year at the University of Birmingham, driven by a passion for sustainability and practicality.
Most recently, Nysa held the position of Chief Operating Officer at The Gemmological Association of Great Britain (Gem-A).
Nysa works alongside the CUBO Executive Committee and colleagues in the mission to lead and promote excellence in the development of campus life, services and the student experience and in continuing to deliver the core benefits of membership – networking, best practice, data and resources for all campus and commercial services.
Gillian has extensive experience of the Higher Education sector having been the Commercial Director at Oxford Brookes since 2005. Prior to this, she spent almost ten years at the University of London where she led accommodation and conferencing teams at a strategic and operational level.
Other roles have included General Manager for Gardner Merchant, now part of Sodexo, leading a central London contract, and management roles across the hospitality sector, including at a number of London hotels and restaurants.
Hazaar is a campus-based marketplace that collaborates with universities to foster a circular economy, helping students and staff save money by buying and selling second-hand items locally.

Ryan is currently Associate Director of Commercial Services at the Royal Agricultural University looking after a broad portfolio of services including Catering, Hospitality & Conferencing, Farms, livery, vineyard and more.
Working within the Commercial World of Business for more years than she cares to admit, Helen has championed Sustainability in all its forms for many years.
As Director of the Sport and Commercial Services Division for UEA, Phil has responsibility for the delivery of services and business outputs in the areas of sport & physical activity, accommodation (both student residences and an independent hotel service), catering, retail, and nursery services.
Bringing together a career forged in exclusive venues and unique events from Michelin starred eateries, River Cottage and Glastonbury.
Ryan has been looking at maximising the unique offering the RAU has and trying to bring together added value and a holistic sales approach.
Working with Keele University for the past 5 years has enabled her to pursue this passion and make a real impact by actively supporting and implementing initiatives in the reduction of Scope 1 and Scope 2 Carbon Emissions across the Campus.
Moving forward, her goal is to encourage ‘Personal Responsibility’ and raise the level of education for staff and teams and embed ‘Sustainability in Everything We Do’ and start to tackle Scope 3 Emissions now.
Most recently he is supporting the use of academic assets and programmes that can have a commercial impact across campus.
The purpose of his role is to ensure that UEA has a diverse range of commercial services that will make the campus an attractive place to live, work and study, as well as offering excellent experiences for the local community in our role as an anchor institution in Norwich.
