Imago Venues research - Implications for conferencing

11 October 2024      Bethany Hancock, CUBO Communications Officer

Imago Venues has released a research whitepaper into the differences between in-person and online interactions.

The research used combined methodologies of brain scanning, detailed questionnaires, emotion scoring, and body language analysis and interviewed both online and in person participants. It found an overwhelming preference for in person meetings and events, across both participant samples.

Key takeaways for HE conferencing include:

  • In-person meetings and events make participants feel more energised, more inspired and more connected - it is the top choice for building relationships.

  • The majority recall information better after an in-person meeting or event.

  • Efficiency creates more of a diverse response than any other criteria - but in-person still comes out on top.

  • Travel time is the main disadvantage of the in-person format.

  • Lack of connection and ability to read people are the main disadvantages of online meetings.

  • Extroverts are more likely to prefer in-person events, whereas introverts find online interactions to be less draining.
